Macmillan Coffee Morning 2019

In the run up to Friday 27th September 2019, baking enthusiasts from Watson Moore took to their kitchens for the second time and baked treats as part of the latest Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Just like last year, their culinary delights were available to everyone in the building (which Watson Moore share with Pinney Talfourd Solicitors) and they asked for donations on a ‘donate what you feel is appropriate’ basis. There was also a raffle, a ‘Guess the number of berries in the pie’ competition and voting for 2019’s Star Baker.

Mella Quinlan, reigning champion as 2018’s Star Baker was quietly confident that she could hold on to her title, “I spent a long time deciding which cake I would make this year. I knew it would need to be nothing short of amazing to make sure I could hold on to my Star Baker badge!”

A total of £187.77 was raised, which Watson Moore matched, meaning that a total of £375.54 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Research that morning.

“Obviously another point of upmost importance” said Mella, “is that I was indeed crowned 2019 Star Baker for my Chocolate Extravaganza. My cake was the perfect choice for any ‘chocoholic’ and included Maltesers, M&Ms and Chocolate Buttons as part of the decoration. I’m so pleased everyone enjoyed it and that we were able to raise such a good amount that morning for Macmillan”.

The rest of the team baked their hearts out as well:

  • Chris made ‘Mars Bar infused’ Chocolate Rice Krispie cakes. Another chocoholic’s dream come true.
  • Jon made a Victoria Sponge cake. Always a popular classic.
  • Rebecca baked some fantastic Parma Violet cupcakes.
  • Megan brought her Biscoff cheesecake to the table.
  • And Dan’s Milkybar Fudge also proved a popular treat.

The stakes are even higher now for the 2020 Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning as team members seek to knock Mella off of the top spot and steal the Star Baker badge. With regard to her competitive team-mates, Mella said “They are welcome to try and take the title next year, but I fully intend to go for the hat trick. And I have a year to plan how I’ll do it.”
