Macmillan Coffee Morning 2022

After a two year break, team members of Watson Moore dusted off their baking equipment and prepared for our next Macmillan Coffee Morning.

“I had a particular interest here,” said Mella, “as I was the reigning Star Baker from the previous Coffee Morning in 2019. We hadn’t been able to hold another Coffee Morning in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions, but now the pressure was on to defend my title.”

Since we held our last Coffee Morning, the team had also grown and so Josef, Chloe and Oliver were all taking part for the first time.

We offered to make everyone in our office building, which we share with Pinney Talfourd Solicitors, a tea or coffee whilst they worked and Chloe, Dan and Mella worked hard to sort this. “I never wanted to boil another kettle again!” said Chloe.

The team also held a raffle, with prizes including chocolates, two bottles of wine, a set of John Lewis oven gloves, a house plant and a collection of Harry Potter Chocolate Frogs. “Of all the prizes, people were going mad for the frogs!” explained Dan, “Two people in particular had their hearts set on winning those frogs and I don’t want to imagine what might have happened if one had won the frogs over the other. Thankfully the frogs were won by a neutral party!”

Staff from Pinney Talfourd Solicitors were able to vote for whom they thought deserved the title of Star Baker and this year the title was won by Josef and his ‘Salted Caramel Surprise’ cake. “I was chuffed to bits to win the title,” said Josef, “I was baking until late the night before, so it’s nice to know all my efforts were not in vain.” Mella however refused to comment on her no longer being the reigning Star Baker.

Watson Moore matched what was raised on the day and so, after Gift Aid and matching, we raised £291.38 for Macmillan Cancer Research. The team’s attention now turns to the next Coffee Morning in September 2023 and that future clash of the titans/bakers…
